A Special Takeout French Themed Brunch Basket

Have you been ordering takeout from your local restaurants?

As a rule, we have done our best to support our local restaurants by ordering takeout once a week. As a small business, I can understand how tough it has been for local businesses to try and survive during the Covid-19 crisis. I’ve said it before, but I have lost a lot of revenue due to my events getting cancelled and it has lead me to make some tough decisions on my book inventory. We want to do what we can to lend a helping hand.

A couple of my favorite French themed places have adapted and have been offering pickup options every week. Rendez-Vous, the French Bistro located in Sheboygan has been offering menu items during the whole lock-down. They started with being open for pickup nearly everyday, but a couple weeks ago went to just weekend service. Being Sheboygan is almost a half hour away, I have not ventured that far for takeout choosing to support my small town businesses instead.

Last week I had seen that Rendez-Vous was offering a special Mother’s Day Brunch basket for pickup. The basket consisted of a croissant, a pain au chocolat, and a raspberry macaron. To wash it down they were including a bottle of orange juice and a small bottle of sparkling wine to make a mimosa.

It looked so inviting, I decided to order one for myself. I knew Rick was going to plan a nice dinner for me, so this was my little gift to myself and a way to support my favorite French restaurant too. After all I needed my culinary slice of Paris soon or I was going to go crazy mad!

I picked up my basket and ended up adding another one to take to my almost Mom, Beverly, whom I first met on my first trip to Paris in 2011.

After picking up on Saturday night Megan and I took a road trip to Cedarburg to do a porch drop off at Bev’s place.

I had my special brunch on Sunday morning and it was delicious. Chef Phillippe is a master at taking such care in creating the most delectable delights. I cannot wait to go back to Rendez-Vous (follow their page on Facebook for menus and up to date info) for real and enjoy a meal again! Everything was awesome right down to that beautiful macaron!!

I also cannot go without mentioning my favorite place to get macarons in Wisconsin, Almond and Ivy in DePere. Karli has just been rocking it during this crisis! She has been offering take out orders of her macarons and cookies every week. Last week orders for curbside pickup sold out in 5 minutes!!! She consistently sells out every week. This makes me so happy! If you remember, I featured Almond and Ivy back in 2017 when I was driving around Wisconsin on my search for French macarons. Since then more and more places have started making the petite treats, but Almond and Ivy remains one of my favorites!!

I have not ventured the nearly hour up to visit Almond And Ivy yet, but definitely plan to as soon as I can! Head to the Almond and Ivy Facebook page and give it a follow to get info on how you can get some of the best macarons this side of Paris right here in Wisconsin!

That’s it for now. I hope you are finding some ways to inject a little bit of Paris into your life at this crazy time.
