Beatrice Is Being Prepped For Painting!! My Vintage Camper Renovation

It’s time for painting my vintage camper!!

Today is another milestone in my vintage camper renovation!  With most of the inside construction done, it’s time for priming the interior wood to get ready for painting! To say I am excited would be an understatement!  Watch my video from this morning.

Rick has been hard at work with the actual construction and now it’s my time to shine. Designing and decorating the interior is what I am focusing on. Since this is my own space, I can truly do my own thing and that begins with painting!

There’s no magic potion to priming and painting the inside of a newly renovated vintage camper. I wanted it to look fresh and clean on the inside so the decision to just paint the whole thing was easy. I was not trying to recreate the original look which I know is very controversial in the vintage camper circles, but I wasn’t looking at resale or what anyone else thinks, so the inside was totally up to me.

I just used a typical interior wall primer here. You can purchase it anywhere. The priming in my opinion is a must-do for new wood. It cuts down on the number of coats of paint you will use. The primer provides a stable surface that paint can adhere to. If your wood surface is very porous, that first coat of paint will just sink into the wood.

Of course, opinion varies on the use of a primer, but it’s what I suggest.

Now YOU can share my Beatrice renovation story with the children in your life! Or even for yourself.

Order Beatrice The Little Camper Gets Rescued the first children’s book based on the true story about a little vintage camper’s rescue and renovation.

This colorfully illustrated 32-page picture book is the beginning of my passion project to bring my very own Beatrice the Little Camper to life! find out more!

So I spent most of the day in my grubby paint clothes, but I finished all the priming. We debated whether we should buy a sprayer, versus the old fashion labor-intensive way using brush and roller, but once I got started and focused on the task, it went fairly well.

The back seating area and cupboard doors all primed! Ready for paint!

Don’t you just love those vintage-like cage lights?

What do you think? Keep in mind it’s the only primer. It’s nice to see everything white! Unfortunately (fortunately money-wise) I was called to work tomorrow so I will have to put off painting for a day.

So exciting!!!
