Hotel Goodwin A Premier Beloit Hotel In Beloit WI

A boutique Beloit hotel located right in the downtown area.

The Hotel Goodwin is a second to none unique boutique hotel located right in the downtown area of Beloit, Wisconsin. My friend Erin and I recently did an overnight girlfriends getaway to Beloit. She grew up in Beloit and hadn’t really been back to explore the city, and I had never been to Beloit. Wanting a unique experience and eager to check out the new Hotel Goodwin we decided to stay here.

Disclosure: Visit Beloit hosted our stay, but as always all opinions are strictly my own and I always will give an honest account based on my experience. A big thank you goes out to Visit Beloit for the help in planning our stay.

Hotel Goodwin was above and beyond our expectations.

There were two things that drew us to choose Hotel Goodwin for our stay. The edgy feel and the turntables in every room. With the resurgence in popularity of vinyl records, the turntables add a cool retro vibe to the 34 rooms available for booking.

A bit of Hotel Goodwin history

Named after the 19th century luxury hotel Goodwin House which was located in downtown Beloit until 1904, Hotel Goodwin is part of the Geronimo Hospitality Group. Seeing that the nearby Ironworks Hotel (also part of the Geronimo Hospitality Group) was often filled to capacity, it was decided that the downtown area needed another hotel to fill a need. While the Ironworks has an industrial feel, Hotel Goodwin has more of an artsy-edgy feel to it. Hotel Goodwin opened in 2018.

A couple days before out stay, I was contacted and asked if I wanted a complimentary upgrade to the Goodwin Suite for our stay. Ah, yes please!! I had requested 2 beds and I was assured that there was a king sized bed and a pull out queen sleeper sofa in the seating area of the suite. I immediately went online to the hotel website and checked out the pictures of the suite. I knew that if the pictures did the room justice, we would love it.

What is that amazing scent?

We arrived a little early, but were able to check in right away. That was nice, since we were just going to drop our bags and find a place for lunch right away. The lobby was gorgeous! White tile and dark wood. What was that wonderful scent that filled our noses as soon as we walked in? We would soon find out it is a closely guarded signature scent. If you want to capture that scent in your own home you are out of luck. No one was about to give away that secret. Darn!!

Super friendly staff

There is a small check in desk and the guy who checked us is was new to the job. He was very friendly as we chatted away. There were a few computer issues, but we soon had our room key and was headed for the elevator. We ended up had some issues with our room key not working, but they were solved when a manager let us in and reprogrammed our keys.

Off to the right off the lobby is the Velvet Buffalo Cafe, restaurant and wine bar. Out first impressions were a feeling we had stepped back to the turn of the century, yet with a modern touch. For the music lover, this hotel is the perfect stay. There is art work everywhere that has a music theme. In our room, there was even a framed print of Bruce Springsteen, much to Erin’s delight since he is one of her favorites. Overall the artwork throughout the hotel was edgy, colorful, and chic.

We took the elevator up to our room. When we got to our floor and stepped off the elevator, the corridor was dark, and mysterious. As a result, we both had a giggle cause it reminded us of the hotel from the FX show American Horror Story Hotel season. This was not a bad thing at all! As we both were fans of the show. I had never stayed in a hotel like this before.

Introducing…the Goodwin Suite!!

A few words about the “open concept”

Well you can see for yourself. It was wonderful. The one thing I will say about the Goodwin Suite is this. The whole bathroom area is totally open and a part of the bedroom area. The shower is glass and I want to clarify, if you are a little modest, this may be a little intimidating. If you are staying for a romantic getaway, this is perfect. The Goodwin suite does have doors that shut with shades if you want some privacy while in the bedroom area. This divides you from the seating area. The toilet area does have a pocket door that shuts.

If you are a little unsure about the open concept bathroom, you can check out the other rooms. On the website, they have a short video tour of each room style. It looks like the Classic Queen room has an enclosed bathroom and although the Classic King has an open concept, the shower has a solid wall between the bedroom and the shower.

These truffles were delicious!!

We had to try on our cozy robes!!!

So you may be able to tell we really loved the Goodwin Suite!! We kind of felt like we were guests of honor. I will say that king sized bed was so comfortable. The big windows had black out shades which is a bonus for those that want to sleep in. Out view was of the street in front of the hotel, specifically a clear view of truk’d, the taco bar we had lunch at once we were all checked in. You can read more about the places we visited in my Beloit Food, Fun, and Fitness post here.

A Rooftop Bar and the Velvet Buffalo Cafe

After exploring Beloit we returned to Hotel Goodwin and had a most excellent dinner at Velvet Buffalo Cafe. We both absolutely loved the food! If you didn’t already go back and read my previous post about the places we ate at and things we did in Beloit during our stay,  go back and read about our dinner at Velvet Buffalo Cafe.  Sadly we were unable to to to the rooftop bar and therefore couldn’t enjoy a drink while viewing the city. Not only can you rent out the rooftop for private events like small wedding receptions and meetings, they have public events like summer wine tastings. Check the public events listing page for details and dates.

Hotel Goodwin offers a whole lot of character. Modern yet classic and chic, this hotel in downtown Beloit rivals all the incredibly expensive hotels in Chicago. What an exquisite retreat for a little downtime, a romantic getaway, girlfriend getaway, or even a unique family stay. The turntables make it fun, the art makes it funky, and the Velvet Buffalo Cafe, makes for world class dining. We absolutely loved the room, the decor, the dining, and that scent they were piping in! We honestly felt like VIP’s in this luxury boutique hotel. It was easy to walk to the heart of the downtown area and the river.

I’d say that the Goodwin Hotel is a perfect stay in a city that has it going on!
