15 Best Benefits Of Camping in 2021

The best benefits of camping in 2021

It looks like we will be moving into the second year of restricted travel unless the rollout of the Covid vaccine speeds up more than what it has so far. Even though I had Covid in December, I am still being cautious about going places and limiting my person to person contact. I have no intention of flying anywhere until I get the vaccine.

As a result, camping is my main travel choice once again in 2021. That’s just fine and dandy with me. I have fallen in love with camping in spite of some of its inconveniences (EX. MOSQUITOS).

You may be curious why someone who adores Paris, its history, good food, style, narrow streets, and charm can also love sleeping in a tin can? Camping has its own set of charms (except mosquitos). I love the peace I feel when I’m enjoying my morning coffee to the sound of the birds singing, I love the ashy smell of the campfire, I love the trees swaying in the breeze…

I think I’ve said it before Camping recharges my batteries in a way that no other form of travel does. Since I go solo or with my small group of lady camper friends, I only have myself to worry about. It’s my peaceful alone time. I write, read, get crafty, kayak, and hike while I camp. I enjoy walking around the campground and seeing everyone else’s set up. Sometimes I have interesting conversations with people I never would have otherwise connected with.

The benefits of camping for everyone are numerous, and I highly recommend it as a way of travel for women who’d like to travel solo.

I asked 15 of my camping friends the benefits of camping along with reasons why they love to camp.

I recently put a post up on Twitter and Facebook asking my fellow camping friends, families as well as solo lady campers, what they love about camping. Of course everyone will tell you that getting outside is one of the main benefits of camping, but there were some other benefits that came up.

Camping has become a way of travel. Will it continue even after travel returns to normal?

It’s no doubt that 2020 was the year of camping. Many revisited camping after many years away and many more tried it out for the first time. It is estimated according to the KOA North American Camping Report, that 18% of campers that tried camping for the first time in 2020 will continue in 2021. The biggest benefit of camping in the report was spending time in the outdoors.

If you haven’t yet tried or revisited camping, you really should give it a try. I know the biggest jump in first-timers came from the millennials, but as a middle of life camper, so many of us can soak in the benefits of camping and a dose of nature.

Ok, well some people just aren’t cut out for the camping lifestyle

I know what you’re going to say. You don’t like being uncomfortable. It’s too hot. It’s too cold. I can’t afford a fancy camper. I don’t like bugs (who does). I have no one to go with and it’s scary going alone.

Just give it a shot

If you’ve ever even had a teeny tiny thought in your mind that you might like to try camping, just do it! Rent an RV as a no-risk trial, ask a friend if you can tag along on their next trip, or grab a tent and do an over-night stay at the nearest campground.

Tips for making camping a fun experience.

You can be as comfortable or uncomfortable as you want. With all the options for mattresses on the market, sleeping is no longer a one size fits all experience. There are so many options.

Glamping has become a thing. Glamping is about comfort and luxury. The finest sheets and plush comforters, cloud-like pillows, and soft lighting. Add a chandelier in your RV or tent and you have set the stage for a glamping experience. It’s supposed to be FUN!

Another option is to find a park or campground that offers cabins for rent. You get a taste of the camping experience without all the investment. Typically you just bring your sleeping gear, food, clothing, and your set for a weekend in nature.

To avoid the extremes in temperature, it’s easy to carry along a small heater and fan or it’s a bonus if your RV has A/C. You can also be mindful of the time of year you camp. I’m not crazy about camping in the dead of summer when it’s too hot to sit outside. Fall camping is my favorite time. Cool nights and warm sunny days are perfect for camping.

No one to camp with? No worries

Don’t get me started on the ‘I have no one to go with excuse’. There are literally 100’s of Facebook groups geared toward solo lady campers.  Sisters On The Fly and Girl Camper being the largest groups. After those, there are so many smaller, regional and local groups. If you can’t find one, start your own! I camp with a very small group of ladies and I find that most comfortable for me. I don’t do well with large gatherings and have trouble putting myself out there.

As far as safety, you ALWAYS have to be aware of your surroundings no matter where you are. I feel comfortable in a campground. My main solution is to have two chairs set up and a set of men’s shoes outside my door.

Here are other things you can do for safety.

The benefits of camping and getting outside are numerous. With so many options, it’s worth a try. Why not join the rest of us that have chosen camping as our main way to travel.

Just remember to bring the marshmallows!
