When In Paris Do A Wine Tasting

Paris Day 4

After the whirlwind of day 3 and all the things Renee and I did, day 4 was a light day.  Although it didn’t seem  like it at the time.  The only thing I had actually planned ahead of time was our wine tasting lunch at O Chateau.  Located in the 1st Arrondisment just 5 minutes from the Louvre, O Chateau is founded by the famous Oliver Magny.  If you are not familiar with him, just pick up a copy of his books Stuff Parisians Like or the most recent Into Wine.  I have both books and they are great reads. His wine philosophy is for those of us who just want to learn more about French wine or wine in general without all the intimidation.

Which is what these wine classes are all about.  Fun and informative, this lunch time wine tasting quickly became my favorite thing I did in Paris. In the 1 1/2 hour class you learn things about wine and you are also guided in what cheese goes with which wine.  You have a generous selection of cheese, bread and also a variety of charcuterie.  We got to taste 4 different wines from different regions plus started out with a champagne.  I honestly have to say that you have to do one of these classes while in Paris.  Plus, what is better than sampling French wine?  I walked out and came home with 2 bottles that were my favorites of the day.  We also met some fun people who were in our small class. Afterword you are positively giddy from the wine which made our walk back to our apartment entertaining.

If you can, please book one of these classes on your next visit. There’s nothing like taking an actual French wine class in Paris!!
