Rue Cremieux is a quiet pedestrian street tucked away just off of bustling Rue de Lyon. This street is roughly a 15 minute walk from Bastille in the 12th Arrondisement. It’s easy to miss and only takes about 5 minutes to walk it’s whole length, but I classify it as one of my must sees in Paris.
The colorful cottage facades, make Rue Cremieux a breath of fresh air from the neutral beige and gray architecture of the rest of the city. It’s like stepping into a different Paris from the regular tourist spots. ย No crowds to navigate through, just peace and beauty. ย Hidden gems like this are what give Paris it’s enduring charm. Plus there is no better photo op than Rue Cremieux.
If you do stroll down the quiet pedestrian street, please keep in mind that real residents live here. Please be quiet and mindful of their space!
Strolling down the quiet alley, one can’t help but dream about what life is like for the residents behind those colorful walls. ย If you want to get a better idea of just that, there is a quaint hotel offering several studio apartments on this street located at 15 Rue Cremieux called L’Hotel Particulier.
Another street to explore in Paris, Rue des Martyrs, is bustling with activity. I love this book and think you will love it too.
Part of the reason for going to Paris is to experience these hidden gems. A perfect trip to Paris has a mix of the big tourist sights like the Eiffel Tower and the lesser known places. ย Places where you can photograph and years down the road go back and recall how you felt when you were there. Rue Cremieux is a place that will make you feel good. ย Like you really experienced Paris. ย And isn’t travel all about the experiences anyway?
Thanks for this. We are going in September and will be staying in the 12th. A new area for us! Will definitely go walk down this street……
