Do You Want A Vintage Camper Trailer Awning?

Haven’t decided if you want to purchase a cute vintage camper trailer awning?

I don’t blame you. The really great ones are expensive and when you spent possibly a couple thousand dollars already renovating your vintage camper trailer, you may question your need to spend a few hundred more.

I went through the same reservations. I even went out and bought one of those canopy umbrellas thinking it would have a similar affect, but all it did was waste an extra hundred dollars because I wasn’t able to have it up. It was too heavy and even on a mildly windy day and anchored down with weights, I couldn’t use it.

Many people use the easy up canopy which I think works great and if they are a color that matches your little vintage beauty, you can definitely get away with it.

Then others with sewing skills are able to make their own. I debated to try this myself, but just cause I sewed my own curtains for Beatrice doesn’t qualify me to sew scalloped edges.

Secretly I would go to Etsy or Pinterest and pine away for those cute little fringed awnings in the most adorable patterns and colors. I was definitely drawn to the pictures of campers that were dressed in a cute colorful awning.  I wanted one of my own, but just could not justify the extra expense. This yearning for an awning went on for months.

Finally I decided to bite the bullet and order one of my very own.

Buy which one to order? Which company to choose? What color? What fabric?

It was almost easier to just go back to dreaming of having my own awning.

I had narrowed my search to two stores on Etsy. Both had great reviews. Pink Flamingo Awnings had some great ready made awnings in fabulous colors at patterns available in their store. Sew Country Awnings was the other Etsy shop I was interested in. Both were close in price. I was still confused about the color I should have. I thought about a pink and white stripe, but wasn’t sure.

The next time I searched Etsy, Sew Country Awnings had a ready made black and white stripped awning with double scallop, a black and white floral pattern for one scallop and polka dots on the other. It was made out of heavy duty marine grade fabric which would be functional as well as pretty.

I fell in love! I loved the black and white and thought it would look great adorning Beatrice.

First I had to measure to make sure this was the size that I needed for Beatrice. Once I did that I went ahead and ordered the 8 x 7 foot awning.

The timing it took to order and get my awning was spot on. On the listing it was going to take 3 to 4 weeks and this was right at the peak of camping season. When I received my awning it was in a bag so I could keep it folded and in there when I wasn’t using it. It was heavy duty, came with 3 riveted holes for the poles, and exceptionally well made. I loved it and couldn’t wait to get it on Beatrice!

We found it really easy to slide into the C-rail we had installed on Beatrice. Since the track was clean, the heavy duty cord went through. I stood on a step ladder on the right side then switched to the left side when it was half way through. I was able to pull it through myself. Using the poles and rope we had bought separately off Amazon, it took us a bit to get it up for the first time. Now that  I have had plenty of practice and patience, I am able to put it up myself. It is even easier to take down, fold up, and store away.

Looking at my little Beatrice with her awning puts a smile on my face as well as many others. When I pull up and set up camp and attach my awning, so many people stop by and comment how cute she looks. I have to agree. Beatrice’s awning completes the vintage camper package.

Renovating our first vintage camper was a scary and rewarding project. Ten months later I gained a cute little camper and backyard she shed.
