Book Recommendation: Pancakes In Paris by Craig Carlson

My book recommendation for this month is Breakfast In America by Craig Carlson Not only did this fun read make me incredibly hungry for all breakfast food, it  was a great glimpse into the crazy bureaucracy of starting and running a restaurant in Paris. This is the true story of Craig Carlson and his very famous diner style Breakfast In America restaurants in Paris. Armed with an idea and a dream, his journey is not an easy one by far. Struggling with setback after setback, Craig never gives up on his dream. It sure takes a tough skin to…

Musee d’Orsay In Pictures

During my recent trip to Paris in September the Musee d’Orsay was on my list of must sees.  Even having been there before, this is my art museum of choice.  I love the Impressionism period so this is the best place to see them all.  This gallery features some of my favorite works of art, including the Orsay itself…

Lampposts Outside The Louvre

This photo of the row of lampposts in the courtyard outside the Louvre is one of my favorites from all the hundreds I took in Paris in September.  My goal was to take enough pictures to keep my Instagram account supplied until my next trip to Paris! If you don’t already, follow me on Instagram (@lorilovesparis) to see all my photos. I was going through  my Paris photos (again!) and decided instead of writing a full blog post today, I thought I would share some of my favorite photos with you. This photo just puts me in such…

Two Lessons I Learned From My Paris Trip

Could Paris live up to my high expectations? Now that I’ve been back home from my second trip to Paris for nearly a month I can sit back and think about the lessons I learned from my Paris trip. There were a few things I was concerned about before I left for Paris.  Mainly, will it live up to the expectations that I had?  I built Paris up in my mind so much that I was worried that it would not be the magical place I remembered from the first time around.  Since this was the first time…

Shopping Day In Paris

Paris and shopping go together and that is just a plain fact.  I first fell in love with Paris many years ago  simply because I loved fashion and Paris is the fashion capitol of the world.  That was my first reason for wanting to visit this city.  Seeing all those stylish French women in pictures in magazines and on TV made me long to be them.  If only someday I could visit Paris maybe some of that style would rub off on me. Well whether or not that has happened after two trips to Paris is debatable.  I try and…

How I Fell For The Charms Of A Montmartre Artist

No, there’s nothing unscrupulous about that title.  Anyone who has been to Paris and went to visit Sacre Coure and Montmartre know about the artists that wander around Place Du Tetre very willing to do your sketch for half price.  These are the charming men who will do your sketch in about 15 minutes while they flirt and flatter the ladies into believing that they are the most beautiful thing on earth and worthy enough to take a rightful place next to the Mona Lisa in the Louvre. So on day five of our Paris trip we we…

A Visit To The Eiffel Tower-Day 4

What is the one thing you have to do when you visit Paris?  A visit to the Eiffel Tower of course!  The only decision you have to make is to go to the top or not. I tried to purchase tickets for the summit before I left home the week before.  Mistake!  I took a chance and waited and paid the price by needing to stand in line to purchase those tickets at the site.  In the end it was okay.  Yes, we waited in line about an hour to get our tickets, but once we got them the wait…

When In Paris Do A Wine Tasting

Paris Day 4 After the whirlwind of day 3 and all the things Renee and I did, day 4 was a light day.  Although it didn’t seem  like it at the time.  The only thing I had actually planned ahead of time was our wine tasting lunch at O Chateau.  Located in the 1st Arrondisment just 5 minutes from the Louvre, O Chateau is founded by the famous Oliver Magny.  If you are not familiar with him, just pick up a copy of his books Stuff Parisians Like or the most recent Into Wine.  I have both books…

Paris-Day 3 Part II And Letting Life Get In The Way

I absolutely had the best intentions to write an excerpt on my trip to Paris almost everyday.  It seems like Paris was so long ago already. Life has gotten in the way.  Monday morning I began what was 3 days of training for my USPS Rural Carrier job.  This was held in Milwaukee.  Luckily I was able to crash at my friend Beverly’s place for a couple of nights to save some time on the commute.  On Thursday I reported to our Post Office and delivered a partial route.  I was like a deer in the headlights!  I…

Paris Trip Day 3 Marche Monge, Latin Quarter, and Woody Allen’s Midnight In Paris Church

By day three I think we felt a bit better.  I found each night I would plan the next days events.  I started off with a rough list of things we that were must dos before we left home and after day one it needed to be broke down into days.  So each night I would go over what we did that day and then plan the next day.  The only scheduled thing we had was our wine tasting lunch at O Chateau for Saturday. Today was day 3 which was Friday.  Since I wanted to go to a market…
