My Dream U2 Weekend In Chicago

This was a post I wrote last June after I had the best weekend of my life while seeing my favorite band U2 in  Chicago…   Did you ever think about how you would react if you ever came face to face with the person or persons you have admired for so long? This first U2 concert I went to was during  the Zoo TV tour. I was transformed that night by the spectacle of this multi media show. I really liked the music before, but seeing Bono work the audience that night was mind blowing. Think what you…

Surviving Your Child’s Graduation

My one and only child just graduated from High School on Sunday. I actually got through it using only one Kleenex. This was quite the feat considering I was scared that since I am an emotional person I thought I would be that sobbing Mom that totally embarrasses her daughter. Yes I did shed some tears when the school principal got up and talked about how proud he was of this class and how this class was the one to earn the highest ACT scores in the area. Yes I did shed some tears when my daughter marched into the…

Dr. Seuss Captured The Meaning Of Graduation

“You’re off to great places! Today is your day! Your Mountain is waiting, so…..get on your way!” This line from the famous Dr. Seuss book Oh, The Places You”ll Go sums up graduation in a nutshell.  The end of those 13 plus years of school.  The end of one phase of life and the beginning of adulthood.  As a parent, you are hoping that you have given your child the tools to continue on with their life and make the right decisions for themselves. Searching Pinterest for graduation party ideas awhile ago…

Book Review- Queen Of Your Own Life

If you are in the second half of your life and are looking for a book that is an instant pick-me-up with some great advice, peppered with a little humor, Queen Of Your Own Life is THE book for you! This little book was recommended to me from a fellow queen, who happens to be a great friend and I am so glad she filled me in!  This book may be pint sized at 168 pages,  but it is full of ways to find your happiness.  Society fills our heads with the notion that youth is the time…

Grandma’s Sewing Machine Finds A New Home

Sometimes a person is taken aback when an unexpected thing happens. Such is the case with this beautiful early 1900’s sewing machine.  One Saturday my Dad had surprised me with a phone call and a request to stop over at my parents house. I did later that day. He took me down to the basement saying he had something to show me. What I saw was an old foot pedal sewing machine that need a little tender loving care. He told me the actual machine is in great shape and asked me if he refinished and fixed…

Time To Yourself Is A Good Thing

What would you do if you had 2 days to yourself? The  hubby and daughter left early Saturday morning for an overnight trip to the western part of Wisconsin where they have a hunting shack on land they lease from a farmer. What does this mean for me? Time to myself at home with absolutely no plans to go anywhere (on purpose) except to run and buy supplies for my weekend project and take the dog for a couple long walks. Now, I love my family with all my heart, but I thoroughly enjoy having time to myself too.  There…

Facing An Empty Nest Is Bittersweet

This is a year full of changes for our family.  The biggest change is to see our  daughter’s last year of High School end and sending her off to college in the fall.  When your children are babies and you are waking up for 2 am feedings it seems like the time that they go out on their own is in the very distant future. Let me just say that time goes very fast and before you know it you will be through the first day of school, through the adolescent years, and finally seeing them off to…

Slipping On My Resolution Of Writing Everyday

Do any of my fellow begining blog writers have this problem?  You vow to write everyday, every week, or a few times a week but find that you let time slip by and before you know it weeks go by.  That’s me right now.  I let life get in the way. I work full time as a manager and it has been a stressful few weeks there, plus planning for our New Orleans/cruise vacation has taken up so much time that I have pushed something that I love to do to the back burner…
