Post College Move In Day Blues

The nest is quiet after college move in It’s day 3 after moving our daughter into college for the first time and all I can hear is Zoe snoring beside me as she takes her 5th nap of the day.  It’s a tough life for a dog! Our baby bird has officially begun her first day of college classes today and so far we only checked in with her once (today). I must say move in day on Sunday went well.  We arrived early enough in the morning and there were plenty of student helpers  that…

College Move In-Time To Let The Baby Bird Fly

College move in day is just a few days away and physically I may be ready, but mentally, I’m not so sure.  Being a total newbie at this whole college thing, I’m unsure  how I will handle it when we leave the campus on Sunday. I can’t help but feel our daughter has been preparing us all summer for this moment. In the weeks since graduation I have probably had only a handful of conversations with her.  Between working at the library and spending time with friends she has been home maybe a total…

Sharpening My Time Management Skills

It’s August and the summer is slipping through my hands.  I have not been able to get a grip on my daily schedule since June when I stopped working.  This is not good for someone like me that likes organization. I decided it was time to put my time management skills at work and at least set some kind of schedule for myself.  Since I will be working part time for awhile, I need to put more structure into my day. Sitting down with pen and paper I came up with a list of daily must do&#8217…

A New Beginning With A New Job

Losing my job was devastating When I lost my job in June I was blindsided.  The one good thing was it was the beginning of summer.  I had enough of a cushion that I did not need to immediately go out and find a new job.  So I had decided I would take the summer to regroup, work on my blog, and figure out what my next step should be. Let’s just say June was a fog. After seeing my only daughter graduate High School, unexpectedly losing my job, and hosting a graduation party in one week, I…

5 Great Things About Female Friendship After 50

I often pause and think about how blessed I am to have some great female friendships.  I honestly would be lost without these relationships and the joy that they bring in to my life.  The older I get the smaller my circle of close friends becomes but the quality those friendships are worth their weight in gold.  Don’t get me wrong, I have a great relationship with my hubby, but the difference between friendships with you girlfriends and your life partner are not the same, nor should it be.  Marriage is a partnership, you share common goals, you…

Rising Up From Losing A Job

It was a little over a month ago when 62 of my fellow employees gathered and were told that starting immediately our facility was going to cease operations. NOTHING prepares you for this. Fifty-two of us left that day in total shock and although we will get paid until the end of July and will receive a  generous severance, the emotional toll of getting news like that is overwhelming. I worked for my company for 32 years, worked my way up from the bottom until I became a manager, which was my position for the last two years. Five…

Learning To Let Go-Transitioning To An Empty Nest

Learning to let go of your children is not an easy task as I am finding out. Last week we had college orientation.  I’ve never had that experience either as a parent or as a student.  After I graduated from High School I attended Technical College while living at home with my parents, so I never had the “college experience”.   It was a somewhat silent 2 hour drive to campus.  Each one of us had our own thoughts.  I was lost in thought about how the day would affect me emotionally.  I wanted to keep a…
