Feature photo: Shrimp and Zucchini Noodle Bowl-a’Bravo
Green Bay, Wisconsin is so much more than just the Packers. And while the Packers may have made Green Bay a famous spot in Wisconsin to visit for Football fans, it is very well know for it’s food, culture, and the fabulous Broadway downtown district also.
I’ll be the first to admit that I am a lady who lunches and I have lunched many times in and around Green Bay and while the area is full of popular chain restaurants, I love to eat at the local places. There is nothing like getting a “feel” for a place your visiting than eating local!
These 5 favorite lunch spots are places I have all been to and in fact some of them several times. All these places deserve repeat visits because of the atmosphere, menu choices, and of course delicious food!
Plae Bistro is one of those places that I have been to several times and every time it does not disappoint. If you are searching for neighborhood bistro fare with a twist, this is the place to go. Offering plenty of healthy and unique options, Plae Bistro will please everyone. There is an interesting lunch feature menu (served 11am-4pm) including my personal favorite, Grilled Fig Panini. Also available is the Blackened Grilled Shrimp Wrap and the Burger Of The Moment. You can also choose the lunch combo with a choice of 3 out of these 4 options, a cup of soup, a 1/2 wrap, a 1/2 salad, and dessert. Like I said, The Fig Panini is my choice every time I go. It is something a little different and I just love the combo of the fig and brie cheese. For a little extra you can get it with grilled chicken breast! Yum! For those of you who like to indulge a bit for lunch, you will find a wide range of seasonal specialty drinks as well as an extensive craft beer and wine selection. Plae Bistro is located a little out of town near Costco.

If you need gluten free and low carb options, this is THE place to go! With an emphasis on healthy options, a’Bravo has one heck of a unique menu! Start off with Lobster Roll Sliders, try the Shrimp and Zucchini Noodle Bowl, or how about a Roasted Beet Salad? For those all in with the carbs, the “Best Ever” Lobster and Seafood Mac and Cheese would be my pick. There are so many fun things on the menu, it took me nearly a half hour to decide what to try. After much deliberation, I choose the Shrimp and Zucchini Noodle Bowl. It was delicious and made my eyes water being pretty spicy, but is was so tasty and I felt healthy just eating it! (warning: if you cannot handle heat, I would steer clear of this one) Our waiter warned me about the heat this bowl packed, so I was well warned. I didn’t care. It was delicious. The atmosphere is great! a’Bravo also offers a full bar selection with specialty martinis. The perfect place for a “girls” lunch! I loved this place and will be back again and again!

1919 Kitchen and Tap
Okay, okay, if you must mix your Packers fix and lunch then why not kill two birds with one stone? After all 1919 is located within the hallowed walls of the famous Lambeau Field! You’ve worked up quite the appetite after you have toured the Hall Of Fame, bought your Packer gear at the Pro Shop, and got you picture taken while doing you own Lambeau leap outside. Head to 1919 Kitchen and Tap. Featuring pub type fair with a nice selection of starters (Parmesan Breaded Cheese Curds), soups (Beer Cheese Bisque!!), salads, sandwiches (Turkey Club), burgers (Wiscoburger), and a little kids menu, 1919 will please the whole family. You cannot go wrong with any of the options on this menu. I personally love the Grilled Cheese featuring a combo of American and Muenster cheese with smoked bacon. Please go try the Beer Cheese Bisque and let me know what you think! And if you are there on a Friday Night, they serve the traditional Wisconsin Fish Fry. You have not experienced Wisconsin until you have had fried cheese curds and a Friday fish fry! Trust me on that! This is the perfect backdrop to enjoy a perfect lunch where the city owned Green Bay Packers call home. Even if you are not a football fan, the history here in the “tundra” will leave a lump in your throat.

The last two options are located in Suamico, just north of Green Bay. Well worth the few minutes drive!
Lunch at Chives is an experience! They offer small, medium, and large plates of classic fare. Offers include crab cakes, BLT, Open faced rib-eye sandwich, Pesto Baked Cod, Chicken Marsala, Classic Fish and Chips, and Butternut Squash Ravioli (my favorite). The atmosphere here cannot be beat. Located in a historic building, you will be pleasantly surprised when you have your lunch here. This award winning restaurant is a favorite of locals and out of towners! I had heard people sing the praises of this place long before I visited. They offer a weekly feature menu that can change without notice, so if you are thinking of visiting and have checked out the weekly menu, make sure you call to make sure it is still available. This again is the perfect place for a “girls” lunch. Reservations are encouraged.

Who can resist pizza? Certainly not me! I get cravings for pizza! This is one of the best places in the area for pizza. The only downside for me was the open kitchen only because I was there in Summer and being at the “hot flash” stage, I was having extreme hot flashes!! But that was just me. I must confess, I have only been here for dinner, but I included it here, because the pizza was so tasty and any great lunch list should include a pizza choice! Don’t you think? Although Rustique’s specialty is authentic brick oven pizzas, they offer a nice selection of sandwiches, salads, and appetizers. They also have the classic Wisconsin Friday Fish Fry too. But the pizzas! You have your classics such as cheese, supreme, and veggie lovers. The real stars are the unique pizzas like the Uncle Rico (like a taco pizza and soooo good), Conquistador (their mac and cheese on a pizza crust), Club Med (your healthy pizza choice), and finally my favorite for the odd pizza, the shrimp and asparagus! What? Who puts asparagus on pizza? This is one I HAVE to try the next time I visit. How about you? Would you try it? This is a cool place to enjoy your pizza since Rustique is housed in an old chapel (I know, atmosphere is very important to me) Give me a slice of pizza in a historical building and I’m good! Note: Rustique is only opened for lunch on Friday, Saturdays, and Sunday. Also, if you catch the downtown Farmers Market on Broadway during the Summer, you can find Rustique’s food truck there.
