5 Great Things About Female Friendship After 50

I often pause and think about how blessed I am to have some great female friendships.  I honestly would be lost without these relationships and the joy that they bring in to my life.  The older I get the smaller my circle of close friends becomes but the quality those friendships are worth their weight in gold.  Don’t get me wrong, I have a great relationship with my hubby, but the difference between friendships with you girlfriends and your life partner are not the same, nor should it be.  Marriage is a partnership, you share common goals, you…

Readers Block-Trying To Find My Reading Groove Again

I’m having a behavioral issue.  I can’t remember the last time that I was stuck and was having a hard time trying to stick with a book.  The last 2 books I have tried to read,  I just could not finish.  Very strange behavior indeed!  Maybe it has something to do with not feeling very settled myself.  Maybe it’s feeling a measure of guilt for reading purely for pleasure and not productive reading.  I think losing my job has really messed with my mind! The likely reason is that I think I am in…

Wisconsin Destination-Lakeside Park Lighthouse Foun Du Lac, Wisconsin

It’s funny how places that are so near to you, you never take advantage of. All it takes is some gas in the car and away you go!  So how is that for a cheap vacation!! Wisconsin has an abundance of places you can visit all within a short drive of you home.  No messing with long lines in TSA at the airports! Or being stranded at the airport due to computer glitches, which is just what happend  to our guest yesterday when Southwest had to cancel a ton of flights and she ended up having to…

Bastille Days Festival In Milwaukee And A Suprise From A Friend

Sometimes the best weekends come on the spur of the moment. Having no concrete plans for the weekend I spent my Saturday morning doing a couple of my favorite summer things. Strolling around the farmers market in Sheboygan and hitting some consignment shops.  First I made my rounds buying some veggies for the week. I don’t know what it is, but everything looks so yummy when you see it laid out on tables. Maybe it’s because someone else is doing all the hard work! The colors, smells, and the fact everything is locally grown is…

Budgeting For Travel Is Possible-Even You Can Make It Happen

How many times has fear held you back from doing something you really want to do? Are you over 40 and realize that you want to take a vacation in a far off land (or maybe just the next state) and you don’t know how to go about it?    Fear can paralyze us into not living our dream lives.  Of course not everyone can act on every little whim we have, like quitting a less than fulfilling job when we have a family to support, but with careful planning we can take steps to make our dreams into…

Rising Up From Losing A Job

It was a little over a month ago when 62 of my fellow employees gathered and were told that starting immediately our facility was going to cease operations. NOTHING prepares you for this. Fifty-two of us left that day in total shock and although we will get paid until the end of July and will receive a  generous severance, the emotional toll of getting news like that is overwhelming. I worked for my company for 32 years, worked my way up from the bottom until I became a manager, which was my position for the last two years. Five…

Wisconsin Destinations-Meeme Poll House

Sometimes the most interesting places are right around the corner.  We tend to overlook  places when we live right by them, but on a Thursday afternoon I was helping the hubby install an underground fence for a property next to this cute little building. Curiosity got the best of me and I asked the property owner about this place.  It turns out there is quite the history behind this little building which is on its way along with the former Sesslers Meeme House tavern to take a permanent residence at Pinecrest Historical Village west of Manitowoc Wisconsin. The tavern was…
